Events

The Shreveport Anime Society is involved with a number of events, some sponsored by the SAS, and some that we just participate in. Below you can find a brief description of what the regular events are all about.

Chibicons - The club hosts their own chibicon roughly every other month at a branch of the Shreve Memorial Library. These are the clubs main events, and are called chibicons since they feature several of the events you would find at an anime convention, but on a much smaller scale. The chibicon consists of several contests and events, including an art contest, cosplay contest, name-that-tune contest, anime jeopardy, a video game tournament, officer’s announcements, and an informative panel.

Cosplay Picnics - Every few months the club holds a Cosplay picnic at Betty Virginia Park. Cosplay is encouraged at these, but not required. This is mainly a social event, with few activities planned. We share food, play frisbee, and just enjoy the sunshine.

Video Game Tournaments - Periodically the SAS will host video game tournaments. The games vary widely, from several different genres. Some past games that we have hosted tournaments for have included Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Halo series, Gears of War, Guilty Gear, Mario Kart, and many others! Some tournaments are free to enter with some club prizes, and some are pay-to-enter with cash prizes. Keep an eye on the forums for any upcoming tournaments!

Seasonal Gatherings - The SAS usually hosts a party or social gathering for many of the major seasonal holidays and events throughout the year. Some notable examples would be events for Halloween (typically our biggest event of the year), Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and the Fourth of July, to name a few.
